Sometimes an organization needs an experienced communications leader at the table, but doesn't need, or isn't ready for, a full-time hire.
I step in as a fractional senior communications advisor to provide perspective, direction and hands-on support. That can mean helping leadership work through an organizational change, creating a communications strategy, supporting internal communications, advising on a sensitive issue or mentoring a communications team during leaves or hiring processes.
Best suited for: organizations going through change or growth, leadership transitions, communications teams needing additional or temporary leadership, and organizations that need experienced counsel for a particular period or project.
Annual reports. Strategic plans. Sustainability and impact reports. Reconciliation Action Plans. Major guides, toolkits and thought-leadership publications.
These projects often involve a lot of people, a lot of information and a lot of opinions. My role is to turn all of that into something coherent - and worth reading. I can lead the editorial process from the beginning: finding the theme, developing the structure, interviewing contributors, writing and editing, working with subject-matter experts and designers, and getting the finished product across the line.
Best suited for: organizations with a story to tell and too much material, too many contributors or not enough internal capacity to tell it well.

Together, we figure out what you really want to say, who needs to hear it and how to communicate it in a way that sounds like you. The goal is to strengthen your natural communications instincts and judgment, including knowing when AI can help and when it should get out of the way.

I've spent more than 20 years in communications: inside large companies, on the agency side and now as an independent advisor. I've worked with corporate Canada, government agencies and non-profits, from global organizations and household names to growing businesses and Indigenous organizations.
I've built communications functions from the ground up, led teams, advised CEOs and senior executives, managed high-profile issues and helped organizations communicate through acquisitions, rebrands, leadership changes and other moments when getting it right really mattered.
These days, I bring the useful parts with me: experience, judgment, curiosity, good writing and an understanding of how organizations actually work. I leave a lot of the machinery behind.
Based in North Vancouver, British Columbia, I work with clients across Canada and internationally.
Before recommending anything, I want to understand what's really going on.
That means listening to the people closest to the work, asking questions, understanding different perspectives and figuring out what the audience actually needs, not just what the organization wants to tell them.
Complexity is often where I come in.
Competing priorities, too much information, different opinions or a dozen things everyone insists are equally important. My job is to find the thread running through it all: What matters most? What are we actually trying to accomplish? What does your audience need to understand, feel or do?
I don't just check what other organizations are doing.
Your audiences live in a world of podcasts, Instagram, newspapers, Netflix, group chats, great brands, bad advertising and thousands of messages competing for their attention. So I look outside the corporate communications playbook for ideas.
Good work gets better when the right people are involved. It rarely gets better when everyone edits every sentence.
I create a clear process for bringing people along, making room for different perspectives and building trust in the work, while keeping roles clear and decisions moving.
I'm a big believer in finishing.
There will always be another word to change, another opinion to gather or another version we could try. Good judgment includes knowing when more work will make something better, and when it won't.
